Our take

Research-only verdict, not hands-on. The open-source coding agent left beta on Oct 16, 2026. Its terminal, web and desktop apps now share one local background service. New in 2.0: background sub-agents, async shell commands, a rebuilt API with an SDK, and Code Mode, where the agent writes scripts that chain MCP servers and OpenAPI endpoints in one run. Breaking changes: 1.0 plugins don't work and the server API was redesigned, so plugin users should wait for updates before upgrading.
